How To Stay Happily Married With Kids

June 22nd, 2008 by patriceshivcharan

By Bonnie Foshee Raising a family can be challenging and stressful at times. However, the common goals and emotional, financial, and physical investments made can be a common bond between husband and wife. One that compliments their marriage relationship. Of course, like anything else worthwhile, maintaining a healthy husband and wife relationship with children underfoot takes effort. The following tips can help keep marital bliss alive: Happy Marriage Recipe Every happy marriage begins and ends with the same ingredient; the willingness to negotiate. The stumbling block in some relationships, however, is that while the husband was taught to take the upper hand, the wife may have been trained to cooperate. Marriage partners in an equal marriage need to define their husband wife role, to themselves and each other. This lays the groundwork for mutual respect; and the understanding that when there is a conflict, both parties must be ready to negotiate. A Touch of Romance Every bit as important as remaining best friends throughout married life, intimacy in marriage is vital. This includes emotional intimacy as well as sexual intimacy. Time alone together to share feelings is a must. An occasional romantic dinner or romantic weekend getaway can work wonders in bringing the two of you closer together and reducing stress. Go on a date with your spouse! And remember, intimacy doesn’t always have to lead to sex; nor should it. Time to just hold hands or cuddle is crucial for maintaining a close, happy relationship. Rituals and Routines A family ritual such as mom gets to sleep late every other Saturday morning while dad gets up with the kids, and visa versa, is a habit that can become a fun, meaningful ritual. And although having a daily routine sounds mundane, routines are essential for a happy, harmonious family life. For instance, weekly or monthly family activites, and a pizza and movie night every other week can be fun parts of a family routine. Agreeing upon rituals that support family values and a daily routine as a couple is another key to a happy marriage. In Summary The best advice I received was from my sister, “You have to work on your marriage. The children will grow up and move away. You still want to have a relationship with your spouse after they are gone.” Your relationship with your spouse has to come first if you are going to be a good parent. The children will be happier and more secure if they see you have a strong relationship. Besides, after your children grow up and move away, you don’t want to look at your spouse and wonder who this stranger is because you do not know each other anymore. Like New, But For Less Money?

June 19th, 2008 by patriceshivcharan

By Catherine Pulsifer Where can you buy items in good condition but for little money? How can you be frugal with your money? By being frugal you can get more with less. We have found 4 ways to do just that. 1. Online Auctions There are literally thousands of web sites that offer auction type bidding for products. Ebay.ca is one that we use on a frequent basis especially for buying books that interest us. When we get flyers in the mail offering new books, usually at a cost of $40 or more, we search for the book on ebay, and sometimes find we are able to bid and win it for it at half the cost. We have been lucky in that the books we have received are in great condition. The only problem with ebay is that the shipping costs can be high if the item is heavy. 2. Estate Auctions The other type of auction that we use is an actual auction - mostly estate sales. You can obtain items at a very reasonable price often far less than the market value. We have found treasures, items that you can no longer buy in a store at these auctions. Check your local newspaper as auctions are usually advertised in the classified ads. 3. Second Hand Stores Second hand store merchandise sometimes is junk, there are other times where we have found some great bargains. The secret with second hand stores is that you have to check back on a regular basis. They have new merchandise often coming in daily, or weekly. Sometimes you go and there is nothing, and other times you find lots of items. Look in the yellow pages of your phone book for a listing of “Second Hand” stores in your area. 4. Yard Sales/Flea Markets Of course, local yard sales and flea markets offer great bargains! You may have to look around to find what you want, but most times it is worth the time to do so! So the next time you need an item, check one of the four resources above, it just might surprise you what you will find! And you will be getting more for less money. Diet & Weight Loss Secrets

June 15th, 2008 by patriceshivcharan

By Chris Chenoweth Are you miserable with how you look and feel? Have you tried diet after diet and failed? Have you given up on losing weight? You are not alone. Every year millions of people take a trip on the diet and weight loss roller coaster. They spend billions of dollars on every fad diet out there in an attempt to lose weight. What are the secrets to losing weight? First of all, diets don’t work, period. There is NO magic pill, machine or secret that will magically make your body lose weight. You have to think of it as a new way of life, a permanent commitment, not just something you do for a few days or a week and it’s over. If you follow a diet or weight loss plan that requires you to totally eliminate foods or severely limit certain foods, you are setting yourself up for disappointment, frustration, and disaster from the start. You do not have to starve your body to lose fat. In fact, you must never skip a meal to lose weight. Think about it. The main goal of your body is to survive. When you try to lose weight by reducing your calories too much, your body will respond by storing fat instead of losing it and using muscle tissue to provide it with the calories it needs. You body reacts this way because muscle is the most readily available energy source. Using muscle tissue to feed the body lowers muscle mass causing the body’s metabolism to slow down. This, in turn, makes it that much more difficult to lose weight. Starving yourself is NOT the answer! The result is a vicious cycle of trying to lose weight but gaining weight instead. What will burn that stubborn body fat and rev up your metabolism without burning muscle mass? To effectively lose weight, you must drink lots of water, exercise daily, and eat five or six small nutritious meals throughout the day, no more than four hours apart. This weight loss plan keeps your metabolism working at maximum efficiency to burn fat. Your body will not store up fat calories because it senses there will be a steady supply of food and you will not feel hungry or deprived between meals. With this change in your eating habits, you will not be as tempted to cheat and your weight loss will be much easier. In addition, you MUST do some sort of daily exercise. Walking, power walking, jogging, elliptical training, bicycling and swimming are excellent and easy exercises that will put your body in fat-burning mode. These exercises force your body to burn a higher percentage of calories from fat and they increase your muscle mass which allows you to eat more. Plus, your body will burn calories for up to an hour after the activity stops. The secrets to the most effective diet and weight loss plan are to listen to your body and eat when your body tells you it’s hungry, do daily exercises and make the commitment to follow these guidelines for a lifetime. Once you train your body to follow a proper diet and nutrition plan, you will eat more frequently but you will eat fewer calories, feel more satisfied, and lose weight in a healthy manner. In that way and only that way, will you lose weight and keep it off. If you are interested in additional information pertaining to diet and nutrition, please check out the BURN THE FAT program. By KG Stiles The results are in for this natural weight loss formula using pure organic essential oils. This organic essential oil formula is a perfect balance of aromas for curbing your appetite, as well as helping to relieve food cravings, enhance your digestion and metabolism and burn excess fat! Here’s the basic recipe for a potent synergistic weight loss blend: Pure Organic Essential Oils of Pink Grapefruit, Sweet Orange and Lemon. The oils in this recipe are formulated in a 1:1:1 ratio! I can assure you the basic pure essential oil recipe I am sharing with you is an incredible combo for the magical effect of suppressing your appetite, burning excess fat, increasing your metabolis and enhancing your digestion, FAST! Here’s some information on the essential oils in this recipe to help you understand why this particular combination of oils work so powerful for fast weight loss! FIRST INGREDIENT: Pink Grapefruit oil, has a long standing reputation as a “dieter’s friend” and is often recommended for treating eating disorders and overweight or obesity issues and is especially helpful for controlling sweet cravings. It has been used effectively in anti-cellulite blends. Pink Grapefruit is a cleansing and revitalizing tonic with a bright, crisp aroma that will energize and uplift your spirit. I can’t help but think of the Beatle’s song, “Ruby in the Sky with Diamonds,” whenever I take a whiff of Pink Grapefruit because it sparkles just like diamonds and leaves me feeling all warm and happy inside. Pink Grapefruit is also recommended for enhancing one’s self esteem and definitely gives you an added sense of “you can do it!” SECOND INGREDIENT: Sweet Orange which has a very sweet and fresh orange aroma that’s warm and inviting, a rejuvenating and uplifting tonic for the mind and emotions. The friendly scent of Sweet Orange oil will immediately freshen and enliven your mood, creating an inner ambiance! As with other members of the citrus family Orange’s natural astringency makes it an effective tonic for the circulatory and lymphatic systems. Sweet Orange stimulates the release of lactic acid that builds up in the muscles which causes stiffness and contributes to loss of desire for activity and movement. Orange oil acts to replenish skin cells and smooth out an uneven complexion, lines and wrinkles. Orange is a decidedly happy oil and eases physical and emotional tension. THIRD INGREDIENT: Lemon is the potent third ingredient in my appetite suppressant recipe. Lemon oil acts as a powerful cleansing tonic. It has a tart and tangy, clean lemon scent and smells like the freshly grated peel. Lemon is a known physical tonic and helps stimulate blood and lymph circulation to effectively cleanse and tonify the body. It is useful for treating circulatory problems such as “spider” veins, or broken capillaries. A strong germicide Lemon is highly antiseptic and helps to purify and rid the body of toxins. Its natural astringency makes it excellent for the removal of waste products and fatty tissue. Lemon is popular in anti-cellulite blends! TIP FOR USE: Inhale this powerful weight loss blend of pure essential oils just before eating to control and curb your food cravings and hunger pangs. Not only will it stop your incessant urge to eat it will also improve your digestion and metabolism, as well as help you burn excess fat - FAST! Using Purchased Leads

June 1st, 2008 by patriceshivcharan

By Brian Beshore A little advice about using leads that you purchase from another source; These are not opt-in leads per-say, that you have gathered using lead capture pages. They might join your list, but initially this is a whole different animal. First, some basic advice; 1.) Make sure these leads are fresh, no more then a month old. A week is best. 2.) Make sure your leads come with complete data; First and last names, Home address, Phone number, Date and time of opt-in, Ip address and URL they opt in from. This is PROOF of opt-in. These leads often come on a data spreadsheet and each of the fields has the information described above. In case of complaints, open the spreadsheet the leads came on and search for their Email address or name, by holding down the ctrl and F keys on your keyboard. (Control-F=Search) A search box will open up where you can type in the search criteria. Click search. Copy and paste the results into your reply. 3) Do not attempt to bulk Email, from your desk top, using your Email provider. There are programs that will try to do this, but this is futile, as your ISP sets a limit on how much you can send. You do not want to use your personal Email address or business address for this purpose! Set-up another mail drop for this type of campaign. For every thousand leads you send, about 10% will get bounced back from peoples spam filters. At least 3% will flat-out forget or be un-aware that they signed-up for anything, or thought they were signing up to promote their business , and were not aware that they were giving their E-mail address out for it to be sold. Most people are perfectly cordial about it and simply un-subscribe, if that is their want. As with most all of life, its that 3% who can cause the problems. Many people load purchased leads into their autoresponder account. The only problems with this, is that spamming has become such a virulent political issue, that many servers will just shut you down ifyou get any spam complaints, hence most programs have a one strike and youre out policy. Why Your Diets Do Not Work

May 29th, 2008 by patriceshivcharan

By Alex Fir Jennifer has been skipping sweets for a few weeks now. She also turned out to be a stickler for portion control. She feels as if shes eating less than ever, and shes been diligently exercising for an hour at least four days a week. Yet, she hasnt lost a single pound. Why? This is a dilemma which affects dieters all over the world. They think they are taking the steps necessary to lose weight, but nothing seems to be happening. Basically, they are trapped in a dieting rut and they do not know how to free themselves. As a result, they become frustrated and depressed and may then engage in binge eating. One of the problems with diets is that they are often standardized. As a result, they do not take into consideration your individual physiology and metabolism. They provide a cookie-cutter approach to weight loss; an approach which may not work in your individual case. As a result, an increasing number of people are turning to dieticians to formulate a person weight loss strategy for them. This process has been made easier through the Internet, where you can correspond with a dietician any time of the day or night via e-mail. The dietician can also act as your personal coach, helping you through your dieting dilemmas. Another reason that you may be failing at your diet is because of a lack of support. You may have family members who can eat whatever they want and not gain a pound. As a result, they may fill your refrigerator with junk food, leading you into temptation. Also, you may feel as if you have no one to turn to in order to discuss your weight problems. In order to solve this problem, many individuals look to psychotherapists to help them with their food-related issues. This can be particularly important if an individual has turned to purging in an effort to combat their weight problems. Bulimia is a serious disease which must be treated in order to ensure the good health of the patient. Thankfully, there are a number of treatment programs throughout the U.S. specifically focusing on bulimia. Yet another reason for diet failure is hidden calories. You may literally be consuming calories and not even realize it. For instance, the frappucinos that are so popular today are loaded with calories - as many as 600 in a single serving! You may also be indulging in sugary sodas - another source of extra calories. By taking a few simple steps, such as eliminating the exotic coffee drinks from your diet and substituting skim milk for whole milk, you may be able to eliminate the hidden calories that are denying you dieting success. Lack of consistency can also be a diet-killer. You might go on a diet for a while, then quit before youve made any measurable progress. Its only natural to want to see quick results. The problem is that healthy weight loss involves losing only a couple of pounds a week. That means youll have to stay on your diet for months before you see appreciable weight loss. Discouraging? It can be, but if you keep a positive attitude you can achieve your ideal weight. You may also be more successful in your dieting if you consider it to be a lifestyle change. Therefore, your diet becomes a meal plan for life. This means that you must change the way you look at food. It is designed to be fuel for your body, and nothing more. As a result, you should not turn to food to make you feel better or to provide you with a sense of comfort. A lifestyle change implies commitment; it means that you are prepared to follow the plan for the long haul. If you feel as if you cannot be on your diet for any appreciable length of time, perhaps its time to consider a different diet. Your aim ultimately should be not simply to lose weight, but to become healthier. A fad diet will not allow you to reach that milestone. Therefore, you must choose your diet carefully. Do you need to lose weight? Visit Online Diet Center for the latest news and information on weight loss diets. You will also learn about different diet plans. Asset Protection

May 26th, 2008 by patriceshivcharan

By Steven Rich Everyone should be afraid of being sued with so many lawsuits being filed now days around the world. You might think that you may never be sued. How wrong you are! Let’s first take a look at how easy it is to be sued now days. One of the first dangers is being indirectly involved with a lawsuit. THE DANGERS OF JOINT & SEVERAL LIABILITY This is a legal concept whereby an individual could be sued as a second or third defendant without having been directly involved with the original injury to the plaintiff. Here are some examples of how you can be sued for Joint and Several Liability: 1. Your business partner commits theft, fraud, or a personal injury in the course of conducting business. 2. Your spouse is accused of theft, fraud, or a personal injury and the plaintiff sues the entire marital community (including you). 3. You render assistance to someone who was injured by another person and the plaintiff sues you along with the person who actually committed the injury. 4. A friend or relative borrows your car and gets into an accident. As the car’s owner you get sued along with the driver. 5. Your company gets sued for sex discrimination committed by one of your employees and you get named as a defendant because it’s your company. 6. Your real estate investment partnership, joint venture, or company gets sued by the federal or a state government because toxic waste is discovered on the property. 7. The IRS, or Revenue agency sues your partnership, joint venture, or company for tax evasion. There are many more examples I could provide. The main thing is that you can be sued and become jointly and severally liable for an injury to someone without having been personally negligent. All that is necessary is that you were connected in some way. If you are dragged into a lawsuit and the other defendants are without assets or insurance, you may end up being held liable for the full amount of the judgment! WHAT ABOUT INSURANCE? Many lawyers recommend you purchase at least $1 Million insurance for each of your businesses, homes, land, cars, motorcycles, and boats you own. This will cost you $ thousands in premiums every year depending on how large a deductible (which you’ll pay to the plaintiff) you are willing to afford. But, is that really enough? $ MILLIONS CAN BE AT STAKE Let’s take a look at how large some of these lawsuit judgments can be. There is a book entitled, The Professional Asset Protection Manual by Florida attorney Mark Warda (Galt Press) which lists some of the recent outrageous jury awards in the United States. For example: $84.5 million for children drowned and brain damaged in a swimming pool. $49 million for a stillborn baby. $41 million for a misdiagnosis of abdominal pain. $5.87 million for sponsoring a party where a guest later caused an auto accident. $986,000 to a woman who lost her psychic powers after a CAT scan. $300,000 for slapping a daughter twice on the face. $75,000 for spraying perfume on a person without permission. $60,000 for cursing, which caused emotional distress. Here are some other recent examples: $12.7 million for a mistake in medication administered by a nurse. $12 million to a doctor for failing to take a blood test for a rare disorder. $7 million to a laborer who lost a limb at work on a construction job. $160,000 to an employee who was goosed by fellow employees. Don’t forget the widely publicized $2.7 million award to Stella Liebeck (for her injuries from spilling some hot McDonald’s coffee between her legs while driving). In addition to the court award, you must pay $ Thousands to your defense attorney! Don’t forget the many hours you will spend meeting with your attorney, answering written questions (interrogatories) from the plaintiff’s attorney, attending depositions where the plaintiff’s attorney will grill you, attending court hearings (motions), and the trial itself. Add all of the time and expense to the psychological and physical stress you will endear. Just because I am using examples from the United States, citizens of Canada, Europe, Russia, Central & South America, and even communist China are being sued for similar injuries. HOW CAN YOU PROTECT YOURSELF? The best solution is to strip yourself of all assets and become what is known as “judgment proof” amongst the personal injury trial lawyers. Most lawyers charge their clients no direct fee for filing a personal injury lawsuit. This is known as a “contingent” fee. It means that the lawyer will collect no fee unless he wins the lawsuit and can collect the court awarded judgment amount. Before a lawsuit is filed, a careful lawyer will research the defendant’s ability to pay a court judgment. If the defendant is “judgment proof” meaning he has no insurance, no ownership of assets that can be seized to pay off a court judgment; the lawyer will not want to sue that defendant. That’s because the lawyer will spend all of his time and money pursuing a lawsuit with no hope of ever getting paid. So, how can you make yourself Judgment Proof? OFFSHORE CORPORATIONS, TRUSTS & PRIVATE INTEREST FOUNDATIONS Owning a corporation set up in your own country may provide a little protection. However, a domestic corporation can be sued as well. In addition, your shares in a corporation are assets in which a judgment creditor can seize. OFFSHORE CORPORATION: A better solution is to set up a corporation outside of your country (offshore). An Offshore Corporation can own real estate and vehicles in your country. For even better protection, set up different Offshore Corporations so each owns one of your major assets. For instance, one corporation owns your cars, another owns one piece of real estate, and another owns different real estate. As the old saying goes: “Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket.” Therefore, use Offshore Corporations to purchase your homes, office buildings, apartments, condos, raw land, and vehicles. The corporations then rent them back to you. Now you are no longer the owner of these assets. They are owned by Offshore Corporations. You are merely a tenant. Remember this, it is important that you sign a written lease agreement (preferably in front of a Notary Public) for these properties and duly Record them with the correct state or government agency requiring you to do so. For instance, a notarized Lease Agreement properly describing the real property must be filed with the appropriate county, state, or provincial government office. Now you have written proof that you are not the owner of the real properties and vehicles which you are using. Also, remember to always pay your rent. If you have a written rental agreement which you violate by refusing to pay rent, it can be declared a sham by the courts. All of the rent you pay will be deposited into your Offshore Corporation’s foreign bank account. As for cash, deposit as much money into the Offshore Corporation’s foreign bank account as you can. These cash assets will also be protected from any court judgment against you. ONE WEAKNESS: While an Offshore Corporation can legally own and rent your assets back to you, there is still one weakness when it comes to Asset Protection. The corporation’s shares may be in your name, or if they are in a form called “Bearer’s Shares”, they are still in your control. The IRS and most countries’ Revenue agencies require you to disclose any ownership in foreign corporations and bank accounts. In addition, a court could order such disclosures in a lawsuit. You can avoid this weakness by having all of the Offshore Corporation’s shares held by either an Offshore Trust or a Private Interest Foundation. Then you can truthfully tell the IRS, Revenue and courts that you do not have ownership in any foreign corporations or bank accounts. IMPORTANT: Before you set up Offshore Corporations and transfer assets to them, here is one more important fact. You must transfer your assets before you get into legal trouble or become exposed to a lawsuit. FRAUDULENT CONVEYANCE: This is a legal term for someone who tries to hide assets from creditors knowing that a lawsuit has or will be filed against him. It is an attempt to illegally hide assets. Such assets will not be protected from a court judgment. If assets are transferred before any act which arises into a lawsuit occurs, those assets will be protected. In other words, create your Offshore Corporations now and transfer ownership of your assets to them before you get into trouble. CONCLUSION Asset Protection is necessary in today’s lawsuit crazy world. While the steps we have summarized for you above may seem difficult and complex, they really are not. That’s because using experts who know how to set up Offshore Corporations, Trusts and/or Private Interest Foundations will make this easy for you. Say “CIAO” to a Less Anxious Job Search

May 17th, 2008 by patriceshivcharan

By Dan Kropp Many of us can feel a bit overwhelmed when attempting a new job search. Does my resume look professional? Does it accurately position me for the job I want? How do I find the best recruiters to partner with? What job boards do I use? It can all seem a bit overwhelming. While these issues are important during a job search, there are other, more personal items, which are equally important. Additionally, success with these items can go a long way in saying “Ciao” to a more focused and more successful job search. C = Confidence Many times job seekers can feel somewhat insecure when going about a job search. Maybe youre in the market because you have been underutilized or underpaid in your current position. Maybe youre ready to make a change in a new direction. Maybe youve just been laid off. Each of these scenerios can make you feel less marketable in your job search almost as if you are damaged goods. To that I say, Change Your Mindset! Dive into your job search KNOWING you ARE an asset to an organization. Your experience and knowledge are real commodities. Besides, its not like you’re the only one in the market with your current circumstances. Think about it. The reason youre looking for a new job is mostly irrelevant to everyone other than you. Get past it and focus on the skills and knowledge that you have and those you bring to a new organization. I = Investigate There is more to a successful job search than just looking at job boards, submitting a resume and waiting for a call. First, a job search is a great opportunity to review WHAT YOU WANT TO DO. You may discover this is the best time for a change in career direction; to do something other than what youve always done. This personal investigation can allow you to redirect your efforts toward a position that will bring you greater long-term satisfaction. Regardless of direction, investigation also entails how you move forward. Investigate your target industry to best understand its global needs. As you move forward into actual interviews, Investigate the company to understand its unique needs. Focus more towards the job needs, and how you can best present yourself as the answer to the specific needs of the position. Dont forget a job search is a two-way street. Your investigation should also provide you information about growth potential, industry and company culture. Two similar positions in different companies can be significantly different in their long-term satisfacation to you, depending on the culture and growth variable you can uncover through research. A = Assertiveness If confidence is a mindset of knowing you are an asset, assertiveness is the ability to present yourself professionally and to fully understand the process for moving forward. Once you decide on a path, move forward with a drive. Request meetings with those you know and with leaders in your target industry. Ask questions and educate yourself on the status and needs of the industry. If you find an opportunity you wish to pursue and for which you know you can do an excellent job go after it with Gusto! Let the hiring company know YOU ARE THE PERSON FOR THE POSTION. Also, during the job search process, ask questions!! Never leave a meeting or an interview with questions still on your mind. Be assertive and present yourself as an asset and never leave with unasked questions. O = Ownership Never leave your success in the hands of someone else. All to often, job seekers will work hard at identifying their desired career path, work hard on their resume, find a desirable posting via a job board or recruiter, submit their resume and then wait. They wait for the phone to ring. They wait on an email response. They wait, and if no response is provided, they give up and move on. DONT BE THIS PERSON. No one is responsible for your success, except you. Follow-up on resume submittals, re-connect with executive recruiters. After an interview, reach-out to the company contact if several days have gone by without their follow-up. Do not wait for others to connect with you. You connect with them! That contact may ultimately be the difference between success and a prolonged search. Dan Kropp, MBA, PHR, is a Senior Marketing Consultant for R.L. Stevens & Associates Inc. You can choose the standard arbor, with its traditional feel and long lasting quality that is sure to outlive your rod. You can also choose the Old Florida fly reel large arbor, which like its smaller counterpart hold a traditional fly-fishing feel to them, yet have faster line retrieval, lots of backing capacity, lower startup inertia, and a classic look. This reel has a sturdy built, yet is medium weight that is not cumbersome or heavy. If you are an avid fly-fisher, you may however want to go with the Old Florida reel super arbor. This reel is basically the exact duplicate of its smaller brothers yet it carries far less drag, and less line memory on coil. All of the fine products from Nautilus are made in the USA, and including the Old Florida fly reel has a great product warranty. All of the fly reels in the lineup have a very large line capacity and are made to last. What separates this fly reel from the competition however, is the inter-changeability of the arbors. With just one rod, and one standard reel assembly, it can switch from a standard arbor to a super arbor in a very short period of time. This makes the reel a very useful and inexpensive way to have all you want from one neat package. Changing the arbors on the fly reel is a just a snap away, and you do not even have to be a pro or shop rep. With anodized aluminum, polished black, or silver the reel makes for a very attractive tool of the fly-fishing trade. Check out the complete line of Nautilus reels including the Old Florida fly reel and see the difference for yourself once you hit the stream for the day. Tips on Finding Employment as a Corporate Flight Attendant

May 9th, 2008 by patriceshivcharan

By Matthew Keegan I will not pretend that this is the easiest topic to write about. In fact, my knowledge of how one finds work as a private flight attendant is based chiefly on what others have shared with me. You can find some useful tips within the many threads written on the Corporate Flight Attendant Community message boards at http://www.cabinmanagers.com, but to save you from culling through hundreds of threads I will highlight various standout points and include others that have been shared with me over the past several years by industry insiders: * Cold calling. Time honored and time tested this is an important method for finding work and it is also one of the hardest for the majority of people to do. If you do not have the skills to contact strangers you will find an important avenue for securing work omitted. Even the unskilled can accomplish much by attempting this step…practice, practice, practice and you will get the hang of it. You many never feel comfortable doing it, but you accomplish much by trying. Always keep this in mind: every person that you meet is a potential contact for helping you find work; conversely, you may also be able to help someone out too. * Attend conferences/meetings. Attending NBAA related conferences and events will get your name and face out there. Preferably, you would also attend events where a lot of pilots hang out, especially pilots of cabin class jets which include the Global Express, G-V and Falcon Jet 2000. The NBAA’s annual conference is a very important venue for networking as well as are their one-day regional conferences. If you are an NBAA member you get a copy of their directory which lists many companies that fly these very same jets. In addition, membership will give you access to their message boards and other important information on events that they host. How about attending the annual NBAA Flight Attendant Conference? Yes, it can be an important place to learn more about the industry, attend seminars, and network. Many of the newer folks find it helps them gain a better understanding of private flying, while some veterans will tell you to save your money for the big conferences. Your call: conference fees, hotel and transportation charges can add up significantly. Not many people have the luxury of attending every event. * Local airport events. Is your airport hosting a seminar? Is an important industry leader speaking? Well, why not attend? Sure, aircraft de-icing/anti-icing may not be the most exciting topic, but it is to pilots. Guess what? Some of the same people you want to fly with will be attending. Guess what? There is usually a social time afterwards. After the recent crashes involving corporate jets you certainly do want to be knowledgeable about industry best practices involving ice. Oh, by the way, have several copies of your rsum with you and copies of your business card to hand out. Yes, get business cards made up and be prepared to share them liberally. Consider joining your local airport’s advisory board, helping out with special community outreach programs, organizing an airport wide event, etc. Anything that you like to do and that helps get your face and name out there is a plus. In this business your name is golden. Promote it and protect it for all that it is worth! Become an expert self marketer/promoter. * The internet. Do Google searches and start reading and bookmarking every page that interests you pertaining to business aviation. The internet has more information then any library and it is updated frequently. * The Corporate Flight Attendant Community [http://www.corporateflyer.net]. This website was created by me to be a resource center for private flight attendants, for those who aspire to become one, and their supporters. I draw upon industry leaders as well as the private flight attendants themselves to communicate what is going on in the industry, particularly from the cabin crewmember’s point of view. Helpful articles, relevant links, catering information, rsum posting, and message boards are some of the more important features of the community. This is truly a niche community one that has gained the attention and respect of many in the industry. Of particular importance for learning/growing/networking are the message boards. Mostly everyone who participates is already working in the field as a crewmember either full time or on a contract basis. Others are working on the skills they need to enter the industry, while still others offer important help or guidance to the industry. Let me say this: your screen name is your business and I do not reveal who you are if I happen to make the connection between your screen name and true identity. Many business relationships and friendships have been made between our members because of the message boards. By participating in our Open Chat time or via p.m. [private message] contact you can “meet” our members. * Job sites. There are many sites on the internet listing aviation related jobs. They include: Skyjobs, Plane Jobs, AviaNation, Climb to 350, AEPS, and the Aviation Employment Board. This last community, the Aviation Employment Board [http://www.aviationemploymentboard.net] is run by me and is a companion to the Corporate Flight Attendant Community. Naturally, it is my preferred method but some of the other sites are helpful too. Unlike the Aviation Employment Board, most will charge you a monthly fee to register. A big hint: if you do sign up check out the jobs listed on the “pay sites” with the free sites. See if you notice any difference in jobs listed. If you are a corporate flight attendant, do not expect many jobs to be listed publicly in any case. There just aren’t all that many available at any given time and most companies do not want to publicly advertise their openings. * Agencies. AirCareCrews; Integrity Flight Crews, LLC; Jet Professionals, Inc.; J.S. Firm; Turner Services are all some of the names out there associated with providing hiring services. Expect to pay a fee in most cases; do not expect many opportunities. Your call. As one of our message board members has advised: build your own sources. You may find that something works better for you than another person. Much depends on your own initiative; I find that those individuals who do the most exploring have an easier time finding work. If flying corporate is something that you want, be persistent. Another good trait: be flexible. This includes having a willingness to relocate and being available to work 24/7/365. Matt writes extensively for websites he manages as well as designing and managing websites for others.
